Old Hymerian Lodge 6885 Installation meeting
by Malcolm Forbes
It was a busy day for both myself and W Bro Malcolm Grange, the Worshipful Master of Wyke Millennium Lodge 9696, as we had both previously attended an Installation meeting of East Riding Consistory in the Order of the Scarlet Cord at lunchtime.
A warm welcome awaited the visitors to Beverley Road Masonic Hall for the evening meeting. Amongst the visitors were W Bro Ian Fuller, the newly installed Worshipful Master of Andrew Marvell Lodge 5642 and W Bro Dave Duffill, a member of De La Pole Lodge, whom I was to sat next to in the Lodge room.
The Lodge tyled at 6.30pm and was opened in due and antient form.
Acclamation was given to Past Provincial Grand Master W Bro Jeffrey Gillyon and Grand Lodge Officers present W Bros Mike Roberts, David Greendale and Eddie Wildman.
As Worshipful Master W Bro Malcolm Cuthbert was staying in the Chair of King Solomon for a second consecutive year the Installation was a proclamation ceremony.
Worshipful Brother John Murphy represented the Assistant Provincial Grand Master in Charge, W Bro Chris Thomas. He was introduced into the Lodge by hisl Director of Ceremonies Bro Lee Atkinson, a member of Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge 9611.
The Director of Ceremonies W Bro Anthony Cadle, who acted as Installing DC, conducted the emulation ceremony with dignity and proficiency. The ceremony was conducted in the first degree so that Entered Apprentices and Fellowcrafts were able to witness it.
On appointing his Officers W Bro Cuthbert explained their Masonic duties to each Officer.
As the Address to the Master had been given to W Bro Cuthbert at his Installation in 2025 it was unnecessary to repeat it. Addresses to the Wardens and Brethren were delivered respectively by W Bro Anthony Cadle and Lodge Secretary W Bro Robin Aiden respectively.
Following the Installation ceremony W Bro Murphy presented a Festival Jewel to W Bro David Cadle and a Grand Lodge certificate to Bro Jo Holden.
At the risings I gave greetings as Worshipful Master of Humber Lodge 57, in the company of W Bro Wildman, and as Worshipful Master of De La Pole Lodge, supported by W Bros Fuller, Duffill and Wildman. W Bro Fuller in his first visit as a Worshipful Master gave greetings on behalf of Andrew Marvell Lodge as I remained on my feet as a member of the Lodge.
Following the closing Lodge Brethren and Provincial visitors took to the dais to have group photographs taken.
It had been a well conducted ceremony throughout.
The Festive Board tables were splendidly set out as over twenty-five Brethren sat down. The three course meal was befitting the occasion.
A full toast list was submitted / proposed.
In his response W Bro Murphy emphasised the work which Festival 29 is looking to support.
W Bro Greendale gave a brief toast to the Master. W Bro Roberts gave a toast to the outgoing team. The Master's song was sung by Bro Andrew Crozier.
Senior Warden W Bro Gillyon invited W Bro Grange to respond to the visitors toast as Wyke Millennium Lodge is the daughter Lodge of Old Hymerian Lodge. It was a suitably drafted response.
The Tyler's toast was given by Bro David Cadle before Junior Warden Simon Coperman gave the parting toast at 10.30 pm.
Visitors and Brethren alike had enjoyed the whole evening. The Lodge is in safe hands and looks set to prosper.

In good company: Semper Paratus Lodge 10076 Lodge meeting
by Malcolm Forbes
On my return to the Lodge following attendance at its last meeting on 2nd November 2025 it was encouraging to see eighteen other visitors in attendance. The Lodge has an expanding membership following its consecration in 2025 and altogether there were over fifty Brethren who took their seats in the temple.
The Lodge tyled at 11.30 am and was opened "in due and antient form" by Worshipful Master W Bro Mark Iveson. W Bro Chris Thomas, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master in Charge of the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings, sat alongside fellow Assistant Provincial Grand Master WM Iveson. It was the first Lodge meeting W Bro Thomas had attended in his new Office. Assistant Provincial Grand Master and Lodge Charity Steward W Bro Martin Eggermont completed the triumvirate of Assistant Provincial Grand Masters on the dais.
Lodge Secretary Bro James Wright read out the dispensation allowing the meeting to be brought forward from 1st March.
Bro Duncan Walker was then invested as Lodge Treasurer and W Bro Ben Kelly was invested as DC.
Separate ballots were then held, for Mr Duncan Collins to be initiated into the Lodge, and for the admission of three joining members. The ballots proved clear.
Mr Collins was then initiated into the Lodge. The ritual of the Lodge has been developed from the ritual of Lodge members across the Province. There was a good flow to the ceremony which benefited from the wide experience of those taking part in it. It is not my place, of course, to congratulate WM WBro Iveson and Director of Ceremonies W Bro Ben Kelly for the smoothness of the ceremony, but if it were, I would.
Greetings from Grand Lodge and Province were then followed by greetings from Lodge visitors, all of whom expressed their appreciation for the excellence of the ceremony. As Worshipful Master of Humber Lodge 57, I gave greetings in the company of W Bro Eddie Wildman, whose musical prowess embellished the day, and Bro Matthew Barber. I also gave greetings as Worshipful Master of De La Pole Lodge 1605 accompanied by W Bro Kelly
and W Bro Wildman. The loyal toast, the toast to the Grand Master, and toasts to Grand Lodge Officers and Provincial Officers preceded the serving of the chicken pie at the Festive Board. After the meal and the first six verses of the Entered Apprentices Song had been sung the Brethren took their lead from Senior Warden W Bro Tony Dyer to form a Masonic circle and sang the last verse of the song after he had delivered the moving ritual known as the Adamantine Chain. Bro Collins responded well to the toast to the candidate. At the request of Junior Warden W Bro Dr Hiten Thaker I responded to the visitors toast.
The raffle raised £210.
The next Lodge meeting will take place on 1st March. The Lodge is arranging a social evening at an Indian restaurant in the summer. The Lodge has been able to provide a strong bond for its members who are linked by their association with the police, fire and health services. Freemasonry, Lodge members and visitors are the beneficiaries of this vibrant Lodge.
The parting toast was given at 3.15 pm. As the Brethren left Trinity Lane Masonic Hall in Beverley they could reflect on a most edifiying lunchtime meeting.

Monday 26th January 2026:

The Installation marked the end of Worshipful Master W Bro Tom Cawkwell's two years in the Chair of King Solomon.
The Installation of Officers included the investiture of W Bro Alan Smelt as Senior Warden, Bro Ian Walker as Junior Warden, W Bro Cawkwell as Senior Deacon, and Entered Apprentice Bro Danny Aldred as Junior Deacon. I stood down as Junior Deacon but remained as Charity Steward.
Downstairs the Festive Board reflected the esteem with which W Bro Fuller is held within the Lodge and within the Masonic community.

All Hands on Deck: Myton Lodge 9808 Installation Meeting
by Malcolm Forbes
Myton Lodge meets four times per year at Beverley Road Masonic Hall and is one of only two Craft Lodges in Hull, along with Juno Lodge 10001 which meets at Dagger Lane, to meet in the daytime.
For the Installation meeting Brethren were welcomed with refreshing tea/coffee and biscuits. Supplementing the Lodge Brethren in attendance were the representative of the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Worshipful Brother Michael Graham, his Provincial Director of Ceremonies W Bro Nigel Bell, a member of Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge 9611, W Bro Neil Armstrong, the Provincial Support Officer for the Lodge and Secretary of Kingston Lodge 1010, W Bro Eddie Wildman, Grand Lodge Officer and Immediate Past Master of Humber Lodge 57, W Bro Chris Lefevre, the Almoner of Andrew Marvell Lodge 5642, Bro Steve Wright, the Junior Warden of Humber Lodge, and a visitor, W Bro Newland, whose Masonic career began in Liverpool and who now lives in Anlaby. In addition there was a non-Masonic guest who attended the Festive Board.
Altogether fifteen Brethren attended the Installation with fourteen diners dining at the Festive Board.
The Lodge tyled at 11.30 am and was opened in due and antient form by Worshipful Master W Bro Steven Ives. Due to the low attendance there were a number of stand-in including myself as Junior Warden. Grand Lodge Officer W Bro Mike Roberts remained in the Senior Warden's Chair throughout the meeting.
The Installation of WM W Bro Ives was a proclamation ceremony as he was installed as Worshipful Master for a second consecutive year. Director of Ceremonies W Bro David Johnstone marshalled the ceremony with calm authority.
Unfortunately due to the low turnout of Lodge Officers and the need to fill vacancies subsequently, the Installation of Officers proceeded summarily. W Bro Richard Heaton was installed as Junior Warden. I was re-installed as Lodge Treasurer. It was all hands on deck as apart from providing musical virtuosity, W Bro Wildman also stood in as Inner Guard whilst W Bro Geoff Withers stood in as Tyler.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the only Lodge report was the Almoner's report from W Bro Roberts.
Lodge Secretary W Bro Bill Hartley announced three resignations from the Lodge but on the positive side the Lodge will seek to ballot for a joining member at its next Lodge meeting on 20th March.
W Bro Graham responded upstairs and provided a realistic assessment of the difficulties the Lodge had encountered which were reflected in the low attendance. The Lodge normally invites wives, partners and friends to the Festive Board where a talk is given by a speaker after the meal, which typically boosts the attendance.
Greetings were given by W Bro Armstrong,(Kingston), W Bro Wildman, on behalf of Grand Lodge and as the IPM of Humber Lodge, W Bro Lefevre, on behalf of Andrew Marvell Lodge, and W Bro Newland, who was visiting the Lodge for the first time. Eddie's report can be found on the Humber website.
After the meeting's closure, W Bro Wildman assembled the Brethren for photographs to be taken in the temple.
The Festive Board was set out in a configuration of four separate tables. I sat with W Bro Armstrong, W Bro Lefevre and dining steward, Bro Graham Tillotson. A two course meal of roast beef or salmon and apple crumble and custard or cheese and biscuits melted in the mouth. Two toasts were submitted. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the Festive Board and the food.
By 2.15 pm it was time to say adieu. The Lodge has plans to encourage membership and attendance and with the continued support of its Brethren will flourish.
As I left I congratulated WM W Bro Ives and looked forward to meeting him at a meeting of a companion Order on 30th January. There remains much to look forward to for the Lodge and its Brethren.

Andrew Marvell Christmas Lodge
W Bro Thomas Stephen Cawkwell was in the Chair for Andrew Marvell's Christmas Lodge; a brief meeting of the Brethren upstairs at Beverley Road Masonic Hall for the signing of the minutes, a successful ballot for a joining member from Keyingham, and the election of next year's WM and Treasurer. Congratulations to Bro Ian Fuller and W Bro Colin Shields respectively! Greetings were tendered from H57 and other Lodges.
Reports preceded the closing, after which the Brethren joined friends and wives for the festive board, which included carol singing, a quiz, bingo and a raffle.
